I am only now seeing that the roots of my commitment to compassionate maternity care grow from my grandfather, a practicing doctor until his late 80s. Hearing his stories, following him on rounds, and seeing the close friendships that often flowered between him and his patients taught me that good medicine is about "being there". He truly lived by the maxim "cure sometimes, relieve often, comfort always”.
I recently relocated to Berkeley from Minnesota, where I had been attending births since 2008, first as a doula. The majority of my midwifery training took place with a busy home birth practice in Minneapolis. I have also spent time interning at a birth center and with two midwives in rural Iowa and Colorado who provide care for Amish and Mennonite families. I am passionate about supporting breastfeeding moms and am a Certified Lactation Educator.
I am thrilled to provide loving care for birthing families in the East Bay. I bring a deep trust in the process and in the strength of each woman and her ability to birth her child.
I also have my own home birth practice, June Moon Home Birth, serving the East Bay.
